It’s public knowledge that Han Dynasty is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city, but now I am going to have to split up my time and give Chop Shop some more love.
I like to embrace all cultures and thought it was fitting to go try Chop Shop during the Lunar New Year. To celebrate the Year of the Monkey, they had a special menu that took a unique spin on the traditional menu. Noodles and dumplings promote longevity and togetherness, while the roasted chicken promotes joy.
I tried to get a few things from the Lunar New Year Menu, but the regular menu looked so good that I just couldn’t help myself. I needed to get the best of the best here.
First we got Veggie Dumplings, which came with a ginger dipping sauce. These were cooked perfectly and the flavors all complimented each other.
They also brought the Panko and Lump Crab Cakes out at the same time, which were served with baby greens, and I was super thankful for this since the carb-o-load was soon to come. The crab cakes were good though they were a little fishy and the sauce was very spicy (I’m not one for too much spice).
Next we got the Thai Fried Rice that had Chinese Sausage, corn, peas and shallots and the best part was the it had a fried egg on top. Wow is all I have to say, and my friend wanted me to share with the world that “All fried rice dishes should come with a fried egg on top if you want Eats and the City to review your restaurant.”
Then we got the Spicy Drunken Noodle with Shrimp, Chinese Broccoli and Bok Choy. The noodles were so flavorful, not too spicy and the perfect texture. Basically eating this is the closest way to get “drunk” without having any alcohol. Definitely felt a “buzz” afterwards!
And now the best for last: the Three Cups Chicken (interesting name), but who cares because it was SO DELICIOUS. The organic baby chicken is sautéed with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine and Thai basil. I savored every last bite and can foresee myself ordering this for lunch takeout in the near future.
Chop Shop II hit the G-Spot and gets a 9/10. The food’s delicious, portions are generous and the price is right. There are also so many other dishes on the menu that I will have to come back and try soon! Any suggestions are welcome – feel free to add your comments below!
