Go to Goggan!

Believe it or not, Restaurant Row, one of the most touristy blocks in Manhattan, has one of the most amazing restaurants I've ever been to. Goggan, a cozy and modern-rustic Korean place nestled between an assortment of mediocre Italian and Spanish restaurants exceeded my expectations. I read about this spot in Time Out New York about a year ago and it's been on my forever long restaurant list since. This past Friday I saw Oh Hello (which was hysterical), but I needed somewhere delicious to take a friend that was visiting from out of town this weekend, and I had a feeling Goggan wouldn't disappoint. I knew to get the Bibimbap with Uni, and had my heart set on only that dish and only that dish, until I read the rest of the menu. I went with two others and the waiter said it was pretty standard to get two plates per person because the dishes we're tapas style, so naturally we got seven for the three of us. Here's a rundown of what we got:

Beoseot Chae: Kale, king trumpet, enoki, oyster, wild sesame dressing

Dakgangjung: Fried chicken, sweet Gochujang, walnut

Grilled Eggplant: Deonjang, tomato, parmesan

Grilled pork shoulder, cabbage slaw, apple, pickled garlic Galbi Jjim

Braised beef short rib, baby carrot, moo, pearl onion

Bibimbap: Beef, carrot, zucchini, bean sprout, spinach, shitake, egg Younggae

Albap: Sea urchin, shallot, quinoa, perilla, fish roe, kimchi, seaweed

My "goggan" was definitely filled with food and the hospitality and I am thrilled to say the restaurant gets a 10/10. I will definitely come back before every broadway show (except when I am craving Carmines). The Sea Urchin Albap was unlike anything I have ever tasted. I can't wait to spread the word so others can experience one of the most fabulous meals in the city.
