Bar Omar – a little bit of Paris in Williamsburg

This past weekend, I had brunch at Bar Omar in Williamsburg and it was the first time I ever had French/Algerian food. The sister restaurant of Chez Omar in Paris opened about a year ago and features a variety of North African flavors and Parisian-inspired dishes. The restaurant is known for their assortment of couscous, tagines and meat dishes, but I read that the “Fries were the best in Williamsburg” so of course had to give them a shot.

Here’s what we got:

Chicken Bastilla: Sweet and Savory Chicken with Almonds Wrapped in Brick Pastry

North-African Beef Meatballs, Couscous and seven-vegetable bouillon

Fresh-cut French Fries

Everything was really delicious. My favorite was the Chicken Basilla – it was different than anything I ever had. I went at about 1:00pm on a Saturday and was shocked that the restaurant was so empty. I guess I lot of people still don’t know about their brunch offerings and think of the restaurant as a cozy dinner spot? You should definitely check it out for brunch! The staff was so welcoming, and the waiter moved about two months ago from Paris. Could the experience be more authentic? Overall, Bar Omar hit the G-spot and gets a 9/10.
