Metropolis is All That Jazz
If you like martinis, oysters and jazz music, definitely hit up Metropolis ASAP. The stunning new, intimate lounge underneath Blue Water Grill in Union Square is perfect for after work drinks or a special occasion.
We went on a Tuesday around 7:30PM and the live jazz band was incredible, playing Elton John and Billy Joel all night long.
We started with the table side Metropolis Martinis with Plymouth Gin, Seawater-Infused and Pickled Market Vegetables.
I’m not a martini drinker, but this was quite the experience as the waiter mixed everything right at the table, detailing every component going into the glass.
I rarely take pictures of bread, but this was too good to not capture, and the ricotta butter was incredible.
Here’s a run down of the rest of our meal:
Union Square Metropolis Shellfish Platter, which came with the freshest lobster, crab legs, shrimp, oysters, mussels, clams, squid and octopus.

Baròn Margarita Jalapeño and Caviar
Metropolis Green Market Salad: Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette
Cedar Plank Roasted Faroe Island Salmon*
Valrhona Chocolate Mousse with Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Oreos
This was insanely delicious -- salted caramel ice cream mixed with Oreos may be my new favorite dessert. I will totally come back and get a few oysters and this chocolate mousse and be set for the night
Overall Metropolis gets a 8/10. The atmosphere, cocktails, bread, seafood and dessert was on point. My one complaint was the service, but maybe I was just there on an off night. The staff was super friendly, just a little slow, but hey, the incredible music eased my impatience. I will definitely be back soon and highly recommend it to all.
